Defynnog Yew Trees 2025
Coloured pencil drawing on brown paper
At the medieval St Cynnog’s church in Defynnog village is a giant yew tree with a circumference of over 10 m in its narrowest place. It sits next to a smaller yew tree and they form a pair in the churchyard. These breathtaking trees are sometimes said to be 5,000 years old although some dispute that, claiming they are more like 1500 years old. Either way, they are great magical beasts, the bigger one is hollow in the centre and can be climbed up and into, like a spiral staircase. If you can visit them also visit the nearby Welsh Rarebit Centre and stay for a few hours, so you have time to talk to the trees and discover their secrets.
This drawing is has a black MDF frame with glass and metal hanging cord. It will be well packaged and sent recorded delivery.
This is an original artwork created for the Wheel of the Year exhibition at Oil and Oak Gallery 7th February - 30th April 2025
