Avebury Beech Trees Organic Handkerchief
This handkerchief is sewn by me in my small cottage on the Northamptonshire and Leicestershire border. The image is printed in the UK onto an untreated cotton fabric certified as 100% organic. The approximate size for each handkerchief is 320 mm x 320 mm.
Avebury is an ancient, magical place which continues to inspire and enthral me every time I visit. I have a dear friend who lives in Swindon and I was lucky enough to be here last year. On our long walk we sat underneath these beech trees and had a picnic of coffee and cake, then continued to Silbury Hill. Tolkien was said to have admired these trees and they may have been the inspiration for the Ents in Lord of the Rings.
The border for many of my designs illustrates trees chosen for their associations with old customs and beliefs. They are Elder, Oak, Ivy and Holly. I have also included some of the phases of the moon.
Every handkerchief is sent out with the explanation of where the inspiration came from and with full care instructions.
