Summer Solstice - 21st June

We don’t know why Stonehenge was built but we do know that it aligns with the summer and winter solstice. On the summer solstice, the sun rises behind the Heel Stone in the north-east part of the horizon and on the winter solstice, the sun sets to the south-west of the stone circle. There was an excellent Stonehenge exhibition at the British Museum where I first saw the Nebra Sky Disc, a beautiful ancient object, thought to be the oldest map of the stars. This artwork is about my devotion to the earth and the stars above us and also the feeling of complete exhaustion I normally feel at this time of year, the zenith, the height of summer and the most daylight hours, although the hottest days are usually to come. Stonehenge is positioned where the disc marks the summer solstice sunrise.

Available as an art print in two sizes, 297mm x 297mm and 148mm x 148mm.

The artwork is printed onto 100% recycled 300 gsm card which has a smooth, white finish.  All of The Moon and the Furrow greeting art prints are printed without water or chemicals onto 100% recycled paper or paper from sustainable managed forests, all inks are vegetable oil based and all toners are new generation eco-friendly.
