Water is associated with autumn and if we’ve had a dry summer then rain is very welcome, bringing life and movement to the springs, rivers and waterfalls. Eggs are laid by salmon in the late autumn and buried under the gravel on the river beds. Here they incubate until the spring. Just like autumn sowing for spring plants and growers we can look at what seeds we want to sow into our lives for the next year. Without the need for urgent action or attention, lean into the darker months and how they can hold time for reflecting, evaluating with kindness and dreaming into a beautiful future for everyone by focusing on the three most important issues of our time: clean soil, clean air and clean water.

This handkerchief is sewn by me in the caravan I live in on a farm in Mid Wales. The fabric is 100% organic cotton. The approximate size for each handkerchief is 320 mm x 320 mm.

This artwork was painted in natural pigments for the Oil and Oak Open exhibition in summer 2026.
