Earth - The Adder

Snakes have long been symbols of transformation, rebirth, healing and feminine power. To connect with the energy of the snake is to come home to our bodies, our sovereignty and to Mother Earth. A snake moves with her body pressed close to the ground, feeling every vibration and sensation. When they shed their skins, they let go of the old, moving forward more easily into the present moment and beyond. Deep winter time is a call to dive into the undergrowth and press yourself to the ground, asking what the more than human world requires of us. 

This handkerchief is sewn by me in the caravan I live in on a farm in Mid Wales. The fabric is 100% organic cotton. The approximate size for each handkerchief is 320 mm x 320 mm. 

This artwork was painted in natural pigments for the Oil and Oak Open exhibition in summer 2026.
