I have two of these white versions of the Wicker Man design from an old print run. I'll also include a Wicker Man card if you buy one.
Beltane is held around 1st May, halfway between the Spring Equinox and the Summer Solstice. It happens at the peak of Spring and heralds and celebrates the beginning of Summer. Beltane roughly translates as “Bright Fire”. Fires are lit to cleanse the land and hearth and celebrate the heat of the coming sun and the abundance of Summer. Butser Ancient Farm hold an incredible Beltane festival where a giant wicker man is torched at sundown and this design celebrates the wonderful times I have spent there and is also a nod to arguably the greatest Folk Horror film of all time, The Wicker Man (1973 version of course).
The border for many of my designs illustrates trees chosen for their associations with old customs and beliefs. They are Elder, Oak, Ivy and Holly. I have also included some of the phases of the moon.
The handkerchief comes with a matching blank greeting card and envelope, printed onto recycled card.
This handkerchief is sewn by me in Wales. The image is printed in the UK onto an untreated cotton fabric certified as 100% organic. The approximate size for each handkerchief is 320 mm x 320 mm. Wash at 30°
Each order is wrapped in acid free, unbleached tissue paper and includes a hand written thank you note. I am happy to address this to recipients of gifts at no extra cost. Just let me know in the notes when you place your order.
