The oak and the holly sit next to each other on the wheel of the year cycle which is perfect as oak and holly are inextricably connected in the form of the Oak King and the Holly King, who represent the light and the dark halves of the year. At the Summer Solstice, The Oak King is in his full power, but on the longest day at the Summer Solstice, when the days begin to get shorter, the Holly King starts to gain his strength. Whether they battle on the solstices or the equinoxes, they depend on and rely on each other waxing and waning, allowing death and rebirth in an endless cycle.
